Since we left our product design day jobs in 2003, we’ve had a great time freelancing as Creatives across many sectors; from first class airline seats to feature films, but we often wondered aloud about the “feast or famine” nature of creative freelance work, and how we could improve the experience for both Creatives and clients.
We’ve learned a lot. But we’ve always had this idea that things could be better. In 2008 we prototyped a new business model, opened our first office in New York, and began recruiting talent to join us and share our workload.
We then invited these other freelancers into the conversation, and subsequently the business model evolved into what we have today: a member-owned community represented by a client-facing agency. So the Creatives focus on creativity while the agency manages the logistics and commercial interests of the group.
